ChemSmart™ System Automates Treatment, Cuts Chemical Use In Half & Improves Performance
The ChemSmart system is a patented (U.S. Pat. No. 10,914,427) highly advanced system that automates the treatment of pipelines while also reducing chemical usage and improving performance. One of the primary features of this system is that it automates treatment based on the conditions in the pipeline. This application uses a combination cleaner and corrosion inhibitor called CorrClean that is specifically designed to clean pipelines while also inhibiting corrosion.
The ChemSmart system is highly efficient and can drastically cut your chemical usage. Prior to implementing this system, one of our pipeline operators was using 1600 gallons of chemicals per month, but after installing ChemSmart, this amount was reduced to only 800 gallons per month. This reduction occurred because the system is only initiated for a batch treatment before a pipeline pig is ran to clean the line.
When the pipeline is pigged, a batch treatment is remotely initiated one day before the operator launches the pig. The ChemSmart system pumps a day before and a day after the pig, which allows the pipeline to be soaked with the combo cleaner to give the product maximum contact time to dissolve solids on the pipe wall. After the pig has cleaned the pipeline surface and pits to bare metal clean, the filming corrosion inhibitor can now attach to the bare metal pipe. The ChemSmart system continues pumping after the pig has cleaned the line so the inhibitor goes on immediately. This process maximizes the performance of the cleaner and eliminates the use of corrosion inhibitor when the line gets dirty again.
The ChemSmart system can be equipped with multiple sensors to help control the treatment process. These sensors include corrosion probes, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, wall thickness sensors, fluid level sensors, electrical resistance sensors, magnetic flux leakage sensors, pipeline pig sensors, electromagnetic or acoustic transducers, and oxygen, H2S or CO2 sensors. These sensors determine when a batch is started and under what conditions the batch is completed.
Overall, the ChemSmart system improves performance by automating treatment, reducing chemical usage, and ensuring that the right amount of chemical is used at the right time. The system is highly efficient and provides maximum performance while minimizing the need and coordiantion for on site personnel and treating trucks.
